LoStone Shale is a rich, dark grey stoneware clay with subtle lilac undertones at lower firing temperatures. Its deep, moody tone brings a contemporary edge to ceramic work, offering a striking surface character that enhances both functional and decorative forms.

As part of Valentine Clays pioneering LoStone range, Shale is the UK’s first low-fire stoneware, achieving vitrification at 1160°C. Traditionally, dark stoneware bodies demand higher firing temperatures, but LoStone Shale challenges convention delivering the strength, refinement, and visual impact of high-fire stoneware while firing at significantly lower temperatures.
