These glazes create the signature crackle effect and offer a rich, dynamic surface that enhances both form and texture, especially with brown or buff clays. They exhibit a delicate network of fine hairline cracks (known as “crazing”). Kiln Ice glazes are translucent, but become slightly opaque where the cracks occur, creating a beautiful, layered visual texture. Differences in glaze application and firing technique can affect the final result.

These glazes are food safe, but because of their durability, they are not recommended for food surfaces. Because of variations in the raw materials used during production, we recommend glazed test tiles be fired before each new batch number glaze is used.
